Bradley, that's funny about the food! Okay, I think the hypocrisy, lack of love and the petty nit picking and backbitting really stood out. Also the way my mom was treated after being disfellowshipped and how the oh so loving congegation kept encouraging me to cut her off like a rotten limb , my own mother! After years of pressure to shun her, sorry to say I gave in for about 6 months and it was terrible for us both, at the same time, I had to hear from the platform that JW's are the most loving people on the face of the earth! My nonJW family were horrified by the way she was treated by other JW relatives and now that I'm out, they said they were disgusted with the religion for their total lack of love and mercy. - V Sky

How Does One Just Go Back To Family & Friends After Leaving The "Truth"?
by minimus inif you've left all your family and friends for "the truth" and then you realize how everything you did was for nothing, how do you just go back, especially, if it's been 25 years???
my wife is going thru this dillema right now.
my daughter just went to a family member's birthday party for the 1st time yesterday and my wife feels as though she is unable to be involved because "what will the family think of her after all the birthdays and celebrations" she missed?

Minimus, I can relate to your wife's feelings, but I'm sure her family would welcome her with open arms, regardless of the past. They may ask a lot of questions so she should be prepared for that. I'm celebrating Thanksgiving with my non JW family for the first time this year. It may get back to my Uncle who is an elder & sub C.O but as my Christian cousin says, 'The JW's had me in bondage long enough'. Anyway, the family is thrilled that I'm coming and I'm spending Christmas with them as well. I understand about feeling stupid, I had to ask some of my relatives when their birthdays were! Talk about strange but I'm sending them presents and cards now. All of my relatives had the same reaction when I told them I was no longer a JW (I did the fade) they were so happy and relieved. I was shocked that they always felt that way. It's going to take time to adjust to being normal. I don't know how Christmas is going to feel but I look forward to finding out. - V Sky

Welcome to the board! We have so much in common, I can totally relate to the hell you've been through. While I was in pioneer school the C.O told us that our skirts had to be at least 2 inches below the knee. So I dressed like a nun with my skirts near the ankles, it was crazy, a bunch of young people dressing like old ladies just to please the WTS! I went to film school as well! Needless to say, I might as well have been the antichrist. Did you get the stupid questions? Are you going to make movies in the new system? Do any other JW's work in that field? What does the Society say about it, did you clear it with the elders first? A bunch of control freaks! Trust me, you will heal, just give yourself time. (took me 6 years to leave completely after having my first doubts) I've been free for about 6 months now and I've never been happier. I hope you're working in the industry, I do and I love it. If you ever want to chat drop me a line: [email protected], and don't be disheartend, life is too good.

Great idea Francios, my ad would read: Rebel ex-JW seeks partner in crime, I will call his congregation elders to make sure he is spiritually qualified: must be inactive! DA or DF'd preferred! Bonus points if they say you're an apostate. He must agree to date without a chaperon, feed me chocolate in bed and go all the way with me to the top of the Eiffel Tower. If you meet the above description drop me a line at [email protected]

JW Kids Leave the Organization: Facts
by Maximus inthe october 1 watchtower 2001 features articles on training children "properly" and dealing with a "prodigal child.
the latest inside u.s. figures reveal that 86% of jw children leave the fold, with some 29% who eventually come back for reasons of family ties, most never "reaching out.
" that means over half leave permanently.

Interesting thread. Personally, I was raised in the borg, my brother was never baptized and stopped attending meetings at 18, I didn't leave until I was 29. We're both happier than we've ever been. Since leaving I had to learn how to be young. I had to learn how to have fun, to relax, to just live a normal life. The GB says young people leave for sex, granted many do, I didn't, my brother didn't, we left because we didn't believe the dotrines taught and we were miserable on the merry go round of service, meetings, study. It was killing us by inches. Once we realized that this wasn't the truth, it's just like any other religion except it's far more dangerous because it damages so many lives, we've never looked back. Family ties make it complicated to live life openly. I go to church, celebrated my birthday for the first time this year and I have plans to celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas with non JW family members who were thrilled when I left. I vote, I'm patriotic, I take classes of interest, enjoy hobbies with no guilt, and best of all, I can think for myself, it's allowed in the real world! So the GB can threaten all they want and pull their emotional blackmail with their cruel shunning policy. I am free now and I'm never going back. - V Sky

What's the most hypocritical thing(s) you've ever seen a JW do?
by Steve Lowry inup high on my list has to be when a jw co-worker named john fitzgerald tore into me one morning (when i was coming in late for work) for grabbing a quick piece of cake from the lunch room.
turns out, someone in this small little office had brought in the remainder of their birthday cake for folks at work to finish up eating.
john was older than i and a ministerial servant (ooh) and felt it his responsibility to keep me on the straight and narrow.

I caught an elder and his wife in a bold faced lie. When I called them on it, they denied it and later spread lies about me to the congregation just to shut me up. Little did they know that their hurtful behavior was the reason I started having doubts. - V Sky

Well, my little brother is heading back to the Dark Side...
by Michael3000 inthis is so frustrating - just wanted to vent a bit.. .
my younger brother, who has been "inactive" for about 8 years, has decided that everything wrong about his life is due to his not being "right with jehovah".
arrrrrrgh!!!

Mike, I am so sorry. I'm close to my brother who is also inactive and I know what it would do to me and to our relationship if he went back. At this point your brother sounds like someone driven by guilt. Whatever didn't work out in his life is because he left the borg, this is what the WTS wants him to think, total dependence on the borg. Remind him that there are no guarantees that his life would have been any better or worse had he never left the JWs. Also I would avoid saying anything negative about the WTS to him, focus on the love you two share, the memories, the family bond that the WTS is trying to break. If they are dropping love bombs, be a freakin' nuclear weapon - you're his brother, you love him, they can't compete with that. Even if he doesn't respond to you, continue to love him, keep him informed with how good your life is without the WTS and hopefully he'll wake up. Again, I'm so sorry for your pain, be strong, you're in my prayers. - V Sky

There were so many bad ones where do I begin? I hated 'Let's watch How we Walk', 'Marriage is God's Arrangement', I think I blocked the last title out of my memory something about 'Youths' all I know is there was a collective groan when the first chimes of that masterpiece began! - V Sky

Are you comfortable with voting now?
by Brummie ini admit i have never voted (shame), the last couple of years i have decided to vote but when the time comes i back out.
i like having the freedom to choose whether to vote or not but i never know who to vote on the day that counts and then i feel uncomfortable at the last minute.. how about you?

Brummie, I'm registered as a Democrat but I view myself now as an independent. I vote for who I think is good for the job. I voted for the first time in the 2000 presidential election for Gore, then for Hillary as Senator for New York - I cheered when she won and most recently for who would be Governor of Florida (voted against Jebbie) The first time felt like an out of body experience. It was just strange. The second time around, I felt like an old pro and I've enjoyed it ever since. (I actually voted twice while an active JW!) The way I look at it, people died for my right to vote, so I do it with pride. - V Sky
